A seminar on methods of research in human geography
Seminar focus:
The focus of the seminar is methods in human geography broadly conceived: a de-emphasis on the narrowly technical and an increased stress on issues of theory, interpretation, and conceptualization. Technical issues cannot be totally excluded since theories and concepts affect choice of technique (and the latter also applies!). More generally, the emphasis of the seminar is resolutely practical: helping students think through their research problems in a creative way. The topics addressed include: Abstraction, Theory, Causation, Social Construction, Space, Comparative Studies, Quantitative Analysis, Intensive Methods and Mixed Methods.
