Research Summary
Project: Use and Integration of Geographic Information
Systems and Spatial Analysis Techniques for Identifying Patterns of
Urban Crime
Support: CURA
(6/1/00 - 6/30/01)
Principal Investigator:
A.T. Murray
Summary
Geographic
information associated with crime in Lima
and Columbus (Ohio)
was acquired and integrated in a GIS environment. On the modeling side,
various
spatial cluster techniques were developed and applied to account for
spatial
relationships in the context of hot spot detection. Analysis in Lima has spanned
crime
from 1999 to present. This
project fostered collaboration with Lima Police Department and Columbus
Police
Department. As a result, the work informed policy and decision making
in Lima
PD activities, particularly with respect to community policing.
